Undergraduate Lab Assistant (Workshop Wizard) Application
Location: CNSI Innovation Workshop & Microfluidics Lab in Elings Hall
Position: Undergraduate Lab Assistant

Description: Assists lab manager with routine maintenance, user training, and operation of the CNSI Innovation Workshop and the CNSI Microfluidics Lab. You will play an essential role in helping researchers all across campus build scientific equipment. Additional duties include fabrication of parts for users, improving lab procedures, and modifying equipment to expand our capabilities.
Regular duties:
• Train users in the safe operation of tools • Improve tool storage and layout • Improve handouts and training materials as needed • Design new tools and fixtures for the lab • Supervise users working in the lab • Assist with the maintenance of the lab’s web page and Wiki • Sweep and mop the floor • Inventory standard supplies and restock as needed • Clean and lubricate tools • Other maintenance duties as needed
Desired skills & attributes:
• The ideal candidate is passionate about making things and helping others make things. • Must be able to work safely and independently • Must be an effective communicator • Experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, traditional machining, CNC machining, and microscopy are all welcome, but not required.
Salary: $17/hr
Hours: 2-10 hr/week depending on lab needs and school commitments, up to full time during the summer
